How is MS diagnosed?

MS is not always easy to diagnose because it often develops slowly. Symptoms can come and go and many of the symptoms caused by MS can also be caused by other conditions.

In order to diagnose MS, your healthcare team may perform several tests that may include a physical exam and imaging tests, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). An MRI can show damaged tissue in the brain.

Because MS varies considerably from person to person, your doctor will not be able to predict what course the disease might take and how it may affect you in the years to come.
