Although it is not possible to predict which medications will gain approval, several oral agents for treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) have completed or are currently in phase III studies. This suggests they may complete regulatory requirements over the next 5 years. Some of these include clabridine, fingolimod, teriflunomide, laquinimod, and BG-12, a secondgeneration fumaric acid derivative.
Cladribine and fingolimod have now applied for approval in Canada. Other oral drugs currently approved for other disorders are being studied in MS, including several statins such as atorvastatin and a form of estrogen called estriol.
